Eton Manor travelled to Romford and Gidea Park on Saturday keenly aware that the previous week they had defeated Chingford the previous week.

The weather was looking like having a major influence on tactics and patterns of play. The game kicked off with Eton Manor playing with the stiff wind slightly in their favour. Much of the first half was an arm wrestle between the two packs of forwards. Both the Romford and Eton Manor kickers struggled to convert any kicking opportunities.

Reece Reed the Manor scrum half looked sharp and often tested the home side with probing kicks and snipes around the side of rucks. Gradually after repelling many attacks the Manor pack started to have its effect on the line out and scrums, the line out put pressure on the opposition throw and the scrum began to create pressure.

The deadlock was finally broken on 35 minutes when Romford started a counter attack from deep in their own 22 as the ball was passed down the line when the Manors back line pressed up to pen them in. The ball reached outside centre and despite the presence of Max Murray the pass was made and sharply intercepted for a well deserved try. The conversion was one of many the Ben Thomas struggled to convert due to a now howling wind.

Following a series of good drives from the re start Eton Manor found themselves at a ruck close to the Romford 22 line. It was from here that flanker Kevin Reed rounded off an excellent first half performance with a lightning break through two would be tacklers to run in 20 meters for a fine second try.The try was duly converted by Ben Thomas half time now followed.

In the second half Eton Manor began with an intention to show good discipline and defend resolutely in the face of a stiff wind. They held out and began to exert considerable pressure at the scrum and lineout and with some exceptional tackling from centre Alex Hunter, Romford looked bereft of ideas to make ground. The frustration boiled over and they were soon down to 14 men following a yellow card.

Manor kicked down the line and from a good catch and drive at the lineout the backs were released with a deserved try to Alex Hunter . After the re start a typically electric break by scrum half Reece Reed made great ground before great handling and interlink play brought a try for number 8 Garth Tucker.Ben Thomas duly kicked the conversion. There was now a second yellow for Romford following an illegal tackle on centre Ben Thomas. Tucker was once again involved in scoring the the next try that came following some patient phase play and the chase of a kick upfield.

The next score came from a steal at the lineout by Carl Miller then some powerful running in the narrowest of channels by winger Steven Ross saw him score in he corner. Manor continued their dominance and soon added another score when Romford infringed at a 5 meter scrum that was going back at a rate of knots, a penalty try was the result with the extras added by Thomas. The scoring was rounded off in the final minutes by some great handling involving captain Tryson Goodchild and Kevin Reed ended by Alfie Hutcherson romping over the line. The final act of the game was the conversion by Ben Thomas.
